Smoky Rerun

From June 2008.

I've been plenty busy this week with the start of school. I haven't succumbed to whiteboard market fumes yet, though.

185th Avenue

Not quite Manhattan.

Really, I should say Manhattan is not quite Micanopy, since I'd rather live in the latter.

Cue Tom Petty

When Tom Petty, Micanopy native, wrote 'A House in the Woods,' he probably didn't mean this one specifically. Nonetheless, it brings to mind the song.

I know, I know, I already made a reference to that song a year or two ago. It's a theme.

Rerun and Preview

I'm heading to my grandma's this coming week for her 90th birthday. Maybe we'll see some scenes like the above photo from three years ago.

Shall I Post for Thee a Summer's Day?

This was the scene today from the top of the steel slide at the neighborhood playground. The weather's been wonderful the last few days. I've been plenty busy on grad school studies, testing, and preparing for the upcoming teaching year (I am both the firehose drinker and the firehose, it would seem). I'm getting out into the wide green world in my spare time, but time on the hiking trails is spent monitoring two little ones rather than taking photos.

So, in other words, you can expect a post or two a week for the next month or two. But I reserve the right to go on a posting spree.

Memories of Roasting

I picked up some Mexican Cokes from Carniceria Loa on the way back from class tonight. I drank one out on my porch in the misty 78 degree post-rain air. It reminded me, ever so slightly, of sitting in my courtyard in Austin, in the corner where the eaves cast an afternoon shadow from the 100+ degree heat, running the misting hose on the eaves, drinking Mexican Coke, watching the fountain, and pretending I was on a tropical vacation.

I'm hearing the cries of suffering from all my Central Texas friends this week. I feel your pain. You can lord it over me in January. Hopefully my pines are not suffering too much.

June Flowers

April showers bring May flowers, but sometimes things run a month behind in the mountains (sorry, it's a little bit blurry, and I don't have anything from July yet).

Pre-Holiday Rerun

Is it Thursday already? Here's a rerun from last August.

I've been busy this week with studies and classroom setup, but I'm off to Atlanta tomorrow for the Peachtree Road Race and other holiday activities. Have a happy 4th!
