Apple Picking 2009

This weekend we undertook our fourth annual apple picking trip. For the third year straight, an orchard near Ellijay was our destination (year #1 was during October in New England). We had a new participant this year, of course:

Getting Closer

A rerun, but a prediction of things to come. The hickories and oaks are full with nutty produce, the dogwood and redbud leaves show a touch of blush.

Plus, we're going apple picking tomorrow.

Peck of Peppers

OK, substantially less than a peck. Even so, we're having trouble eating them fast enough. We have picked roughly fifty so far this summer.

This has been a nice green summer; I have no complaints. Still, I can feel the coming change of seasons. Fall views will be here before we know it!

My daughter has free reign on a secondhand, first generation iMac. It's not connected to the internet, and I started her out with only the most basic instructions on how to use a mouse and keyboard, etc. Although I answer her questions from time to time, most things she's figured out to o just by fooling around. She goes through phases: typing, making endless nonsense calendar appointments, fooling with the brightness and contrast, dragging and dropping, etc.

Last week she discovered the "drawing" module of Appleworks. Above is her latest creation. Pretty good for someone not quite four, or so says her admiring daddy.
