Connecticut River Ducks

Merry Christmas!
As with past years, for us it wouldn't be Christmas week if we didn't go on a day trip to Essex, Connecticut. These photos taken Sunday at Essex. The Connecticut River was nowhere near being frozen over, but it did have plenty of ice chunks blowing around.

The Grey Before The Storm

This was the weather on Sunday before a nasty cold-rain storm blew in. Today was sunny, dry, and not too cold (about 40 degrees), though.

Easy Compression

Photo taken Saturday. I think the original JPEG was maybe half the size (in bytes) of the average one that the D70 produces.

That snow is actually totally crusted-over. That snowball is an iceball, and it's not freshly made but from part of a pile of plowed snow. The conditions were no good for snowmen but ok for sledding and fine for photos.

More Prentice Cooper Quick Shots

Some more shots from the little PowerShot during last weekend's hike. We're heading down to Atlanta later today, then tomorrow we fly off to rural New England. I'm sure I'll post some photos from there, although I don't know if there will be much snow.

Below, if you look carefully there's a dusting of flurries on some leaves.

Nice Sunset of Bay Window

I may have mentioned before that I've always wanted a bay window, and this house is the first time I've ever had one (although this is sort of bigger than a traditional bay window). Earlier this week I was sitting in a chair by this window, doing some work on my laptop, when I looked up. Nice view to see when you look up. Below, the actual view from the chair, looking out towards my neighbor's driveway. Above is the view standing outside in front of the window; I wasn't going to stay inside with a nice sunset like that out there.
