All Around the Wire

Don't ignore the power line today. Its location, combined with the lens being on its widest angle, made for a slightly interesting effect.

Peachtree Road Race Training-O-Meter

I felt good this weekend, but I've had a combo cold-allergy most of this week, so I'd say I'm a little farther to the right overall. UPDATE: Well, I went running and felt pretty decent considering.

Spring Oak

Ignore the power lines and focus on the oak.
With any luck I will have the time this weekend to go to the national forest.

Yearly Spring Scene

I was in my old neighborhood near Atlanta this weekend; it was time to take the annual pine+dogwood+azalea photo. Looks like 2008 follows 2007 in being a somewhat drought-reduced azalea bloom in that yard. There were plenty of other azaleas in bloom around the neighborhood, though. Below, 2007's photo, and 2006's below it.

Friday Rock Blogging - The Origin

This photo is from when we visited Fernbank a few weeks ago. My interest in rocks started at places like this, plus a rock collection from my great uncle. I began to realize, as I tromped around in the woods near my house, that the rock outcroppings were not only interesting as playthings, but were clues to nature's great changes of the eons. As the great geologists, biologists, climatologists, and other scientists of the 19th and 20th centuries realized, rocks have a lot of stories to tell, so long as we pay attention.

Below, the next generation is indoctrinated:

Thursday Baseball Card Blogging

Back in the year these were made, I was sure that Steve Avery card would be the most valuable one today. I'm guessing Smoltz is probably the most valuable card of the three, but I'm not sure (and it's not his rookie card). BTW, Avery followed me to Boston for some of the time I was there (me specifically, I'm sure!). I got to watch him in person a few times at Fenway in addition to having seen him at Atlanta-Fulton County.

Peachtree Road Race Training-O-Meter

I've begun training for the Peachtree Road Race. Continuing my set-the-bar-low goals since I resumed running the race last year, my goal this year is to not walk any. I will endeavour to provide my no-doubt-very-curious readers a weekly update. I present the Training-O-Meter of aging-man physical condition and achiness:

Good condition increases to the left. The || indicates current position. Calibration names have been provided.
