Rhodo-mangrove

Lake Conasauga (man-made) has a bunch of rhododendrons clustered on its banks. The combination of the water with their dense twisting forms reminded me a little of mangroves. This is the best I could do photo-wise. This is one of those shots I could fiddle with for quite a while to get right, and still not be satisfied, so I refuse to do anything (and I usually don't do anything). Imagine the leaves greener and the water in the background not so bright.

Rhododenrons were in bloom along several lower ridges in the Cohuttas, but they had not yet bloomed up high at the lake.

Tree Hugging

For some reason my daughter took a special liking to one particular hemlock this weekend. She did actually hug the tree, but most of the photos were a little too blurry to post, so you get to see more of a leaning cuddle.

I guess it is a pretty huggable-looking tree.

Mill Creek Overlook

Taking a break from the Austin photos for some mountain photos. I've got a few more Austin photos, but I think I'll alternate for a week or so. So upcoming I've got more skyscrapers, but also hemlocks and rhododendron.

Peachtree Road Race Training-O-Meter

I guess I'm doing better than Smoltz now, but I don't feel like it. A race to the bottom?

Minature Versions

Fountain for kids, check.

Catwalks to nowhere in particular, check.

Fake hill to walk up, check. But the Texas outline is a nice touch.

Obviously, Renaissance/Coolledge Park this ain't, in either size or scope. Of course, there's nothing original about Coolledge Park's fountain, either. But I guess it's nice that Austin jumped on the bandwagon of this trend. They should have made everything (especially the hill) way bigger. This is Texas fer Pete's sake!

Maybe it's harder without Superfund money.
