Hope you Texas readers are least getting lots of sunflowers with your 100 degree heat.

Lost Pines Jumble

Just a jumble of Bastrop County flora, photo taken in May. Loblolly pine in the middle background, post oak on the right and left, and eastern red cedar on the left. That twisty oak in the middle background on the right went to sleep last winter and never woke up. That's not atypical, as the years of drought and heat can get the better of trees.

More Bastrop Pines

I'm still not done with Texas photos from my last trip, but think tomorrow I'll switch back to mountain pictures for a while. Maybe because I'm going to be on the road in Alabama for the next few days and wishing I was in the mountains. No offense to the north Alabama hills, which are pretty nice.

Mountain Fish

The lighting was just right last weekend to snap a shot of these fish.

This lake is only in the mid 3000's in elevation, but mountain fish make me wonder something: do fish that live in very high mountain lakes (let's say Lake Titicaca) have to adapt to having less oxygen, just like people living at very high altitudes? Or do the variations in water temperature have a far larger effect on the soluability of oxygen than any variation in air pressure due to elevation? I'm not doing the math.
